NJCAA National Tournament – Day 3 & Final Day

Fort Pierce, FL – The NJCAA National Tournament wrapped up this past weekend in Fort Pierce, FL with the Lincoln College men’s and women’s teams both finishing in 6th place overall.  On Saturday, the ‘A’ and ‘B’ Finals took place with several Lynx swimmers participating and two more Lincoln College school records going down.

On Day 3, Lincoln saw several lifetime best times posted as well as another school record.  Ben Abrams (Bloomington, IL) set a new school record in the 100 IM prelims with a time of 1:00.03 while taking 14th place in the event.  In the Top 8 events, Madi Ewald (Lincoln, IL) took 8th place in the 500 Free with a time of 5:28.46 (Lifetime Best); Christina Vance finished in 6th place in the 100 Back coming in with a Lifetime Best 1:03.98; Logan McDanel (East Moline, IL) took 8th place in the 100 Back with a time of 54.08 (Lifetime Best); The women’s 800 Free Relay team of Shannon Smith (Goodyear, AZ), Madison Westhoff (Bloomington, IL), Christina Vance (Glen Carbon, IL), Madison Ewald (Lincoln, IL) took 4th place at 8:28.77; and the Men’s 800 Free Relay team of Logan McDanel (East Moline, IL), Ian Herzog (Lincoln, IL), Ty Ament (Maple Park, IL), and Abrams with a time of 7:42.11 good for a 5th place finish.

In the Top 16 events, Abrams finished 12th place in the 500 Free coming in at 5:07.33 (Lifetime Best); Morgan Glendenning won 9th place in the 200 Fly with a time of 2:32.74 and also took 15th place in the 500 Free with a time of 6:04.55; Madison Westhoff recorded a Lifetime Best of 2:32.98 in the 200 Fly good enough for 10th place;  Ty Ament finished 9th in the 200 Fly coming in at 2:06.09 (Lifetime Best); and Shannon Smith finished 11th place in the 100 Back with a Lifetime Best time of 1:08.32.

On the final day in the ‘A’ Finals, Sophomore Aunyx Ashby (Aurora, CO) set a new school record in the 50 Fly placing 8th place with a time of 27.03.  Aunyx also took 5th place in the 100 Free posting a time of 53.94.  And racing in the ‘B’ Finals, Freshman Ty Ament (Maple Park, IL) took 11th place in the 50 Fly with a new school record time of 24.37.

Other results in the ‘A’ Finals were as follows:  Freshman Christina Vance (Glen Carbon, IL) took 8th place in the 200 Backstroke with a time of 2:26.02; Freshman Logan McDanel (East Moline, IL) finished in 7th place in the 200 Backstroke coming in at 1:58.61; Sophomore Andrew Walker (Frankfort, IL) finished in 4th place in 1M diving; the women’s 400 Free Relay team of Vance, Sophomore Shannon Smith (Goodyear, AZ), Ashby, and Freshman Madi Ewald (Lincoln, IL) took 6th place with a time of 3:49.18; and the men’s 400 Free Relay team of Sophomore Ben Abrams (Bloomington, IL), Freshman Ian Herzog (Lincoln, IL), Ament, and McDanel finished 7th place coming in at 3:26.69.

In the ‘B’ Finals, Shannon Smith took 10th place in the 200 Backstroke with a time of 2:23.66; Sophomore Morgan Glendenning (Lebanon, IL) finished 11th place in the 50 Fly with a time of 29.38; and Freshman Madison Westhoff took 12th place in the 50 Fly coming in at 29.53.

Head coach Johnathan Jordan said of the weekend, “Our swimmers and divers have worked extremely hard this year. All of them earned at least two personal best times during the national meet. It was great to see their dedication to the sport and team paid off in the end.”
