Lincoln, IL – Jake Sexton, who trained five National Champions as the Lincoln College Lynx men’s and women’s swim team head coach, confirmed today he is resigning his position to begin a new career outside of coaching.
Sexton has accepted a job as the Executive Director/CEO at Community Action Partnerships of Central Illinois.
Sexton was the assistant coach under Dan Hemenway from 2003-2007 and became head coach in 2007. In Coach Sexton’s debut season as head coach, he produced 18 All-Americans at the NJCAA National Championships. Coach Sexton’s team also broke 5 team records, 12 Region IV records, and earned 45 personal bests. Also in his first year as head coach, Sexton had his first NJCAA National Champion in Joe Taylor (100 Back). The men placed 2nd, and the women 4th, respectively at the 2008 NJCAA National Championships.
In 2012, The Lynx continued their success. Both the men and women finished 3rd at NJCAA National Championships. Sexton’s squad produced 30 All-Americans, 7 new team records, and over 50 lifetime best.
Sexton’s swimmers and divers are also no strangers to success in the classroom. Since returning to The Lynx as an assistant in 2003, the program has carried a cumulative team GPA over 3.1, has had one salutatorian, over 21 athletes inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa academic fraternity, and over 20 athletes have been selected as Who’s Who of Students amongst America’s Junior Colleges.
“Jake’s dedication to his athletes and the program were unparalleled,” said Lincoln College Athletic Director Dave Klemm. “After learning the ropes from Coach Hemenway, Jake continued to take the program to new heights. And the success his athletes showed in the classroom were something the athletic office is very proud of. Jake will be greatly missed.”
Matt Dickenson will assume the duties as interim head coach, along with his current position of men’s and women’s diving head coach.
